If you don't have formal qualifications, but love and have experience working with youth - be it teaching, coaching, caring - we'll consider it.  Our Organisation Connecting Families is a community services organization founded in 2013 to attend to millions of Australians annually, arranging assistance, support and counsel for families in need. Our entire team is committed to meeting the needs of all the families we assist and support. Purpose:To give a young person (male or female between the ages of 8 and 18) in need of social and recreational development and emotional support the companionship of an adult to supplement the work of parents, teachers, counselors, social workers and other social services and education professionals. Duties/Responsibilities:- Meeting Mentee's (clients) on a weekly basis- Target certain aspects of mentee's development- Work closely with key people/agencies to facilitate activities for the mentee- Be a role model- Improve self esteem and confidence of mentee- Written reports on activities and progressIt should be emphasized that the mentor in no way replaces the parent or the family's social worker. Rather, he or she will present themselves as a Big Brother or Big Sister in the mentee's life.  Activities may include:- Play individual, two-person, and team sports- Tie a knot—such as a bowline, square knot, taut-line, and figure eight, among others- Camping activities - Teaching real life skills e.g. car maintenance- Teaching the mentee about health and well being and much more..Before making any match, Connecting Families will consider location, interests, skills, background, knowledge and temperament of both the mentee and the Mentor. Requirements/Qualifications:- Car and Licence- Working with Children's check- National Police check.Experience in teaching, human services or related fields is helpful. Experience as a parent or extensive experience with young people is also helpful. The Mentor should have the ability to accept and relate to youth who may not share the mentor's lifestyle and values. The Mentor should respect the mentee's right to self-determination and independence. This respect is an essential element in the relationship.
