We have an immediate need for a highly motivated and experienced media and communications professional to join Life Saving Victoria in a fixed term full-time role for 3-6 months to assist for the busy summer period ahead.
You will have previous Government and/or Emergency services experience, with a solid background in reactive media, coordination of media events with excellent writing and proofing skills.
You will be part of a small team that is responsible for the development and delivery of a range of media, public relations, communications and promotional strategies that will support Life Saving Victoria’s (LSV) projects, strategic commitments and its role as an emergency service and state peak body.
We seek a proactive thinker, who enjoys working in a team environment. You will be adaptable with a real ‘can do’ attitude. You will be a people person with great customer service and communication skills. You will need to be available to be on-call for media enquiries including weekends, particularly over the summer period. Some regional travel may be required.

Key Selection Criteria
Ideal candidate: media and communications generalist, with exposure to development and delivery of media, communications, PR and promotional services and strategies. A people person, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work positively with a diverse range of stakeholders. Strong attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and priorities are also required.
Specific requirements: an experienced media professional with at least 3 years’ relevant industry experience. Strong experience in media liaison, both corporate and crisis communication and government liaison essential. You will have a track record of success and some understanding of not for profit, emergency service and/or community-based organisations would also be viewed favourably.
Personal attributes: You will be solution orientated, with the ability to overcome obstacles and ‘make things happen’. You will have a demonstrated ability to work with a variety of stakeholders to deliver excellent customer service. You should be able to deal with high pressure and able to demonstrate a passion for the community sector. A high level of integrity, discretion and empathy is also essential.
