Being able to excel independently and as part of a team is an essential part of the job. You’ll be solely responsible for cooking for a crew of 60 every day, with the assistance of a tight-knit team. This can be an exciting creative challenge if you’re someone that’s passionate about making and serving food. Coming up with your own menus and seeing all the happy crew at mealtimes can be very rewarding.
The role of a Chef is highly valued onboard a submarine. Good nutrition is the key to a great performance, so the entire crew couldn’t do their jobs without you.
Some of your jobs as a Chef will include:
• Compiling food orders,
• Managing the food budget,
• Calculating the amount and type of food needed,
• Operation of kitchen equipment,
• Planning the menu,
• Preparing, cooking and serving a variety of food.
There are also a variety of shore based positions for periods when you are not posted to a submarine including chef roles on Navy bases, instructional roles or maritime logistics administration roles within you’re area of expertise.

Salary:
Be paid to train and learn the skills required to become a qualified Chef Submariner. Upon completion of your initial military and initial employment training, you’ll enjoy a competitive starting salary package of up to: $104, 211 including service and uniform allowances, as well as a Maritime Allowance (if applicable).
In addition to your salary, you will receive generous superannuation, housing subsidies and free medical and dental.
