The Traineeship
Community Solutions currently have multiple vacancies for Chemical plant Operator Traineeships with our host business, Sun Metals, based in South Townsville. The successful candidates will receive a Cert II in Process Plant Operations over a 12-month traineeship period. High performing trainee’s will be given the opportunity to continue as full-time employees at Sun Metals.
Sun Metals, is one of the most technologically advanced zinc refineries in the world, producing Special High-Grade Zinc metal, Zinc Alloy metal and by-products of Sulfuric Acid, Copper, Cadmium, and Zinc Ferrite. The refining process involves Roasting, Leaching, Purification, Electrolysis and Casting, with the products then being sold to both domestic and international markets.
The successful Trainees will be working in a crew, reporting to the superintendent. The training will allow team members to operate production equipment within defined specifications and procedures, under challenging conditions. The operator role will apply technical and procedural knowledge to a range of different activities and develop expertise in problem solving and exposure with a range of commercial, industrial or consumer products
What will you bring to the role?
- An interest in working within a plant operation
- Ability to work 12 hour shifts in a rotating shift roster 4 on 4 off (2 days/2 nights)
- Previous shift work experience is advantageous
- You are a team player with a can-do attitude
- An enjoyment to work with your hands and pick things up quickly
- You are reliable and eager and able to pick things up quickly
- Previous manual labour experience highly regarded
- You are safety conscious and understand the importance of following Workplace Health & Safety procedures
- Be able to pass a pre employment medical including drug and Alcohol
- Drivers Licence
- Forklift ticket is advantageous

Community Solutions is a non-for-profit organisation operating as a commercial business, providing apprentices and trainees to a variety of different businesses throughout Queensland. We provide apprentices and trainees important career guidance and opportunity to earn while they learn. Dedicated Field Officers are assigned to apprentices and trainees to provide ongoing support to completing their chosen trade qualification.
