We are looking for a courageous individual to support and improve the outcomes of young people placed in Banksia Hill Detention Centre, who display challenging and complex behaviours.

- Full Time positions available, located in the Metropolitan area (Fixed Term until 31 May with possible extension)
- $96,900 - $101,000 + Salary Packaging + Employee benefits
About the Role:
As a Intensive Support Worker you will be working an on individual basis with detained young people aged 10 – 18 years placed in the ISU or an alternative accommodation unit for challenging and complex behaviours. You will be supporting a team of two Intensive Support Worker based at Banksia Hill Detention Centre (BHDC).
You will be be responsible for the development and implementation of strategies to help young people increase their capacity to re-engage with mainstream activities and increases the number of out of cell hours. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to create a nurturing, safe and healthy environment to support young people to develop individual goals and strategies to manage their behaviours and wellbeing.
About you:
You will be a dedicated and enthusiastic person who can build rapport with young people and role model socially appropriate behaviour and language. You will be proactive in engaging young people in a variety of activities to give them learning opportunities. In addition you will be capable of dealing with challenging behaviours in a calm manner and familiar working in a strength based and trauma informed manner.
It is essential to hold a qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, Mental Health, AOD and/or Community Services and have experience working with challenging, at risk young people. As this role is a Senior position it will be important the candidate has demonstrated leadership skills. It is also imperative the right candidates has knowledge and an understanding of the Stolen Generation and its impact on Aboriginal people as well as issues impacting young people involved within Department of Justice and Department of Communities Child Protection services.
This role requires the following clearances:
- National Police Clearance (no older than 3 months)
- Working with Children Check, current unrestricted WA Driver's licence and current First Aid Certificate
- Department of Justice clearance (DoJ)
- Covid-19 Vaccination (fully vaccinated)
- Current C or A class driver's licence
