Life Saving Victoria (LSV) is the leading water safety and lifesaving organisation in Victoria. It is built on the strong traditions and programs of its founding organisations, the Royal Life Saving Society – Australia and Surf Life Saving Australia. Lifesaving has been an integral part of the Victorian way of life since 1904. Today, LSV is a multifaceted volunteer-based community organisation focusing on public safety and community well-being. LSV is seeking passionate, skilled and dedicated to fill three (3) positions, to join our volunteer Finance, Risk and Audit Committee.
As a committee member you will have an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our for-purpose organisation and help us achieve our purpose to save lives and empower communities to safely enjoy water.
The Finance, Risk and Audit Committee (FRAC) is crucial in providing independent, non-executive oversight and advice to the Board to ensure the integrity, management and good governance of LSV’s finances, enterprise risks and other statutory and assurance requirements.
As a committee member, you will.
- provide strategic guidance and oversight to ensure LSV’s purpose and values are supported and upheld.
- Actively prepare for and participate in key meetings.
- offer independent, expert and objective advice on matters of governance, risk, finance, investments, assets, and insurance.
- Review and approve key organisational information, reports, and compliance matters.
- Monitor LSV’s performance, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory and policy requirements.
- Foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and ethical behaviour within the organisation.
- Stay updated with related trends and changes to key financial, legislative, regulatory and best practice governance standards.
Who are you?
As a committee member, you are expected to possess a deep passion and skill for your work and to uphold high ethical standards and integrity.
We are looking for talented, committed, and skilled individuals to join the FRAC. The Committee will provide independent advice, perspective, and judgment to the LSV Board. To be considered, you should be committed to LSV's purpose and values, have strong skills and experience in accounting and finance, possess a high level of financial literacy, and have sound knowledge of insurance, financial analysis, external auditing, enterprise risk management or similar areas.
You should also have a strong understanding of financial and best-practice governance systems and regulatory frameworks, as well as excellent knowledge and skills in financial analysis, risk management, and strategic planning.
You will be expected to exercise independent judgment and provide constructive feedback and advice. Familiarity with lifesaving, emergency services, the broader aquatic industry, and education would be advantageous.
LSV offers a rewarding environment where you can provide expertise and support continuous improvement to help drive this iconic for-purpose organisation. Strong experience in senior leadership financial roles, as well as a track record of serving on boards and/or committees, preferably within a for-purpose, member-based organisation, is highly desirable.
