Join the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service (WLRHS)!
We are excited to invite expressions of interest from passionate and qualified lifesavers to join our team.
Recruitment Information Session
The WLRHS will be hosting a Recruitment Information Session on at 7pm, 8 July 2024.
The purpose of this session is to help inform you on the role, process, and expectations of helicopter crew members.

Helicopter Crew Members
As a helicopter crew member, you will:
- Participate in rostered volunteer helicopter patrols and other activities at both our bases in Barwon Heads and Moorabbin Airport.
- Attend regular training sessions and crew meetings.
- Maintain engaged involvement in your club and fulfill your beach patrol commitments.
Expectations and Commitment
We value dedication and commitment due to the extensive training involved. Therefore, we ask for a minimum three-year commitment, except in exceptional circumstances. We understand and appreciate the importance of balancing this role with other personal and professional responsibilities.

Application process
Applications must be received by 11:59pm Sunday 14th July 2024. Unfortunately, applications submitted after this will not be reviewed.
Applicants should ensure they meet the minimum criteria listed in the circular, along with submitting a Resume and Cover Letter, Cover Letter should be no more than one (1) page in length covering the following:
- Motivation to join the WLRHS
- Your experience in lifesaving operations
- Personal attributes you would bring to the team.
Indicative timeline*
- 3 July Registration for information session due
- 8 July Recruitment Information Session Sunday
- 14 July Recruitment EOI closes
- TBC 4 to 31 July Operational Testing Session
- TBC 5 to 16 Aug Interviews conducted
- 21 Aug Key mandatory training date**
- 12 Sep Potential key training date**
- 1 Oct – 8 Nov Potential helicopter training window**

Following WLRHS Operational Fitness Testing, the applicants will again be shortlisted to then participate in a Panel Interview (online) shortly after the fitness testing period.
Please note that not everyone who attends the Recruitment Information Session and submits an EOI should expect an invitation to the WLRHS Operational Fitness Testing Session.
Likewise, applicants who attend the WLRHS Operational Fitness Testing should not expect to be offered an interview.
The applicant will also be evaluated throughout the full duration of the Recruitment Information Session and Operational Fitness Testing Session to test requirements as to their suitability. Please note not all applicants will be successful, and the selection panel’s choice is final.
