The purpose of the Lead Avionics Engineer is to lead a talented team of avionics and software engineers through the vision, design, development, and production of avionics and software systems for launch vehicles that will deliver satellites to orbit. Contribute avionics and software expertise to other Gilmour development programs.
Work across teams to ensure duties are performed in an efficient and timely manner whilst adhering to Gilmour Space policies and procedures.

How you will contribute to our mission in getting Australia to space:
The below is designed to give you an idea of the role you will play. There will be many more exciting and innovative things to do.
- Lead the development of avionics and software systems for Gilmour’s launch vehicle programme.
- Provide senior influence and support of the development and work allocation of the junior team in liaison with the Head of Department.
- Lead the evaluation and characterisation of avionics components, prototypes and commercial-off-the-shelf equipment.
- Lead the characterisation, analysis and performance testing of avionics and software systems using simulation, laboratory tests and field trials.
- Act as a mentor to junior engineers.
- Effectively manage the avionics and software engineering team on a day-to-day basis to ensure optimal performance
- Perform ad-hoc tasks associated with a lead position such as taking ownership of matters within the department and acting accordingly
- Other duties as requested by Management
Mandatory Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline
- 5 + years’ experience within the aerospace or similar industry
- Must be NV1 Security Clearance eligible preferred

- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering
- 5 + years of demonstrated expertise with the design, analysis, development, test and operation of avionics systems
- Ability to lead a team and solve complex problems
- Demonstrated track record of delivering accurate results on-time.
- Experience with Matlab, C++, Python and other modelling and analysis tools.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Additional Responsibilities:
Supervisors / Managers of Gilmour Space are to undertake effective occupational health & safety measures to ensure compliance with WHS legislation. Performance criteria is to include but is not limited to:
- Disseminate Workplace Health and Safety information to staff relevant to the specific work area
- Ensure that employees have the information, instruction, training, and supervision to work safely
- Immediately advising the Risk, Health and Safety Officer of issues relating to WHS in their department and to continually review and make recommendations on ways in which Gilmour Space can improve WHS within their department
- Assist where required in providing/ensuring induction and refresher training is provided to ensure ability of staff to discharge allocated Workplace Health & Safety responsibilities including: hazards within the workplace, safe operating procedures, use and maintenance of PPE and safety equipment and emergency response procedures
- Ensuring all incidents / accidents are recorded and reported and that feedback on actions taken is communicated to employees in their department.
- Ensuring implementation of corrective action arising from accident/incident or hazard reporting and monitoring to ensure effectiveness.
- Supervise the Workplace health & safety aspects of work undertaken by staff within the work area
- Facilitate consultative processes regarding Workplace health and safety issues between management and staff
- Participating in and monitoring of risk assessments, hazard evaluation and implementation of hazard control measures within their work area as required
- Actively being involved with and promoting a clean and safe working environment
