Warner Bros. International Television Production Australia is hiring! We are recruiting a 1st Assistant Director for a brand new exciting sketch comedy TV show, filming across Sydney NSW. Dates: Monday 15th September - Thursday 9th October 2025This role will be partially based out of our office in St Leonards, North Sydney, for prep and scheduling. The rest of the time you will be on location running the shoot days. This is not an entry level role. You must be regularly working as a credited 1st / 2nd AD, or Floor Manager role, in long form television production in order to apply. ---Job Summary:The 1st Assistant Director (1st AD) is responsible for running the set and ensuring the smooth, safe, and efficient execution of filming across multiple sketch comedy segments. They act as the central hub of communication between the Director, cast, crew, and production team, maintaining the production schedule, managing on-set logistics, and ensuring that the creative vision is achieved within the timeframe scheduled.Key Responsibilities:Work closely with the Director and Producers to break down scripts, plan shoot schedules, and identify logistical needs for each sketch.Create and distribute daily schedules, working alongside the Production Coordinator and Location Producer. Manage time on set, ensuring the day runs to schedule while maintaining flexibility for the improvised or unscripted nature of sketches.Coordinate with all departments (camera, lighting, art, costume, makeup, sound, talent, etc.) to ensure readiness before each setup.Lead safety briefings and oversee health & safety compliance on set.Direct background performers, audience participants, and extras as needed in comedic and improvisational contexts.Keep the Director informed of timing constraints while ensuring space for creativity and performance adjustments.Anticipate and resolve potential issues or delays to keep production moving efficiently.Maintain clear and calm communication between cast, crew, and production management.Support the Director in maintaining energy and morale on a fast-paced, comedy-driven set.Skills & Experience:Proven experience as a 1st AD in television, preferably with unscripted, sketch comedy, or variety formats.Strong scheduling and organizational skills, with the ability to adapt quickly to shifting creative demands.Excellent leadership and communication skills to manage cast, crew, and talent.Understanding of comedy timing and the flexibility required to capture unscripted moments.Thorough knowledge of on-set safety practices and regulations.Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused under pressure.
