Senior Mining Engineer
Our Rare Earths mine at Mt Weld, Western Australia, is acknowledged as one of the highest-grade Rare Earths deposits in the world and we operate the world’s largest single Rare Earths processing plant in Malaysia – so you’re joining a very unique team! As a team member you will be contributing to the sustainable supply of rare earths metals which are used in oil & gas, electric vehicles, and wind turbines.
Lynas Rare Earths is seeking an experienced Senior Mining Engineer to lead mine planning and optimisation activities, ensuring the safe, cost-effective, and efficient extraction of ore while supporting operational performance and continuous improvement initiatives. This is a FIFO position from Perth to our Mt Weld Operations on an 8/6 roster.
As a highly valued member of the Lynas Rare Earths team, you will:
- Develop and maintain short, medium, and longer-term mine plans
- Monitor mining performance and report against operational targets
- Provide technical support to daily mining and production activities
- Review and approve contractor drill and blast plans
- Analyse mining costs and identify operational improvement opportunities
- Support contractor management and ensure compliance with mining contract requirements
- Conduct inspections and audits in line with Lynas safety standards
- Participate in incident investigations and safety improvement initiatives
- Liaise closely with geology and operations teams to support accurate ore extraction
- Mentor and develop mining department personnel
What you will bring to the team:
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering
- WA Manual Driver’s Licence required
- Quarry Manager Ticket desirable
- Extensive experience within open pit mining operations in a similar role
- Strong drill and blast design experience
- Experience using Surpac, MinSched, MPX, Pronto, and MS Office
- Strong mine planning, analytical, and reporting capability
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and manage competing priorities
