Board-Appointed (Independent) Directors
Nominations are now open for 2 volunteer Board-Appointed (Independent) Directors positions.
The Life Saving Victoria Board is responsible for the governance, strategic direction and stewardship of the organisation. The Board oversees the long-term sustainability of LSV and works to ensure the organisation continues to deliver positive outcomes for the community, members, volunteers, and employees. Directors should have the ability to understand and engage with LSV's diverse stakeholder groups, including members, clubs, volunteers, government, industry partners and the broader community.
Directors are expected to think strategically, exercise sound judgement, contribute actively to Board discussions and act in the best interests of Life Saving Victoria as a whole.

To ensure the Board maintains the collective capability required to govern and lead Life Saving Victoria, nominations are encouraged from individuals with diverse governance, professional, community, volunteer and sector-specific experience. Particular value is also placed on experience and understanding of the lifesaving movement, aquatic industry, emergency management and community sport environments in which LSV operates.
LSV recognises that diversity of thought, background, experience and perspective contributes to stronger governance and more effective decision-making. The Board values diversity across a range of dimensions, including gender, age, cultural background, disability, geographic location, lived experience and professional background.
Life Saving Victoria is committed to maintaining a skills-based Board. While individual Directors are not expected to possess expertise across every capability area, all Directors are expected to demonstrate:
- integrity and accountability
- strategic thinking and sound judgement
- sound financial acumen
- a commitment to good governance
- the ability to work collaboratively and contribute constructively to Board discussions
- a commitment to acting in the best interests of Life Saving Victoria as a whole.
The Board has identified a need to strengthen capability in the following areas:
- Digital, technology and information governance (including digital transformation, cyber security, data governance and emerging technologies)
- Commercial growth, partnerships and revenue diversification (including sponsorship, fundraising, philanthropy and business development)
- Government relations, advocacy and public policy
- People, culture and workforce sustainability
- Legal, compliance and risk oversight
Consistent with the Australian Sports Commission's National Gender Equity in Sports Governance Policy and Sport and Recreation Victoria's Balance the Board Policy, LSV is committed to achieving and maintaining gender diversity within its governance structures.

LSV's Governance team will coordinate the following fitness, propriety and suitability checks to ensure nominees are in good standing:
- Financial membership confirmation
- Working With Children Check
- LSV/SLSA Member Protection and Integrity check
- Media check
The Nominations Committee will undertake an eligibility and suitability assessment of all nominees in accordance with the Constitution and By Laws prior to candidates proceeding to election.
Successful nominees will also be subject to a National Police Check.

Prior to commencing your nomination, please review the information below and ensure you have all required information available before starting your submission.

- A current resume outlining your professional, volunteer, governance and leadership experience.
- Profile picture (jpeg preferred)
- First name, surname and email address of both your proposer and seconder to enter into the nomination form.
- Completed Statutory Declaration.
- Completed Confidentiality Deed
Application Questions
Applicants for Board-Appointed Director roles will be required to provide written responses to the following questions:
- What motivates you to nominate for the role of Board-Appointed Director? (200 words)
- Which LSV value resonates with you the most?
- Give an example of how you demonstrate that value in your everyday life (200 words)
- How do you champion diversity, equity and inclusion in your everyday life? (200 words)
- Governance and Director Responsibilities - Please describe your understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Director and how your experience has prepared you to contribute to effective governance. (150 words)
- Strategic Leadership - Please describe your experience contributing to strategic direction, organisational performance, significant decision-making, organisational transformation or governance. What outcomes were achieved and what was your role? (150 words)
- Financial Stewardship, Risk and Accountability - Please outline your experience overseeing financial performance, risk, compliance, governance or organisational accountability. How have you contributed to effective oversight and decision-making? (150 words)
- Board Capability Priorities - The Board is seeking capability in the following areas:
Digital, Cyber & Information Governance;
Commercial Growth, Partnerships & Revenue Diversification;
Government Relations & Public Policy;
People, Culture & Workforce Capability;
Legal, Compliance & Integrity.

Nominations Open: Monday 21 September 2026
Nominations Close: 11.59pm, Sunday 11 October 2026
Candidate information, including name, photograph and responses to the application questions, will be provided to the Nominations Committee and LSV Board to consider applications.
Successful candidates will take office in late 2026 / early 2027, following an induction process.

Life Saving Victoria operates within a structured governance and operational framework.
To support effective governance, manage actual, potential and perceived conflicts of interest, promote psychological safety and maintain clear role authority and accountability, some roles within LSV may not be compatible with appointment as Director.
Accordingly, appointment to these Board positions may limit an individual's ability to hold, apply for, or continue in other roles within LSV or associated structures.
