Warehouse Assistant
People Who Care is a not for profit organisation with over 45 years of service. We partner to provide support to older people, those with a disability or people who are facing a social crisis.
This role is situated at People Who Care’s Starting Over Support (SOS) warehouse. The SOS team sources and provides household goods to those people who have become homeless due to family or domestic violence, domestic disruption or who are transitioning into independent accommodation.
As a Warehouse Assistant, you will provide support for our Truck Driver and Truck Driver assists with the loading and unloading of donated household goods and furniture from our warehouse, You will be required to ensure furniture items are stored in their relevant zones in a safe, clean and tidy manner, assist with stock control, cleaning of whitegoods and furniture whilst working with staff and volunteers. Where required, provide support to our driver as a driver assist delivering goods to crisis families.
- Maximum Term Contract - 12 months
- Part-time – Monday and Thursday – 7.6 hours each day (8.00am – 4.06pm)
- Malaga location
- Base rate – $33.52 per hour (+ Salary Packaging)
Primary responsibilities:
- Assist with loading and unloading furniture and other items, ensuring proper handling to prevent damage.
- Receive, assess, sort and clean furniture and other bulky items.
- Assist with appropriate, safe and ordered storage of items within the warehouse
- Interact with the people who are donating and receiving goods directly to our warehouse or via our collection truck service in a manner that demonstrates empathy and respect for all people.
- Participate in the support and training of new volunteers.
- Occasionally safely operate a company truck (4.5 tonne) for deliveries and pickups of furniture and homewares - No special licence required
What you will need:
- A kind, caring and respectful approach to service provision
- Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively in both a team environment and independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to work with individuals from a range of social, financial and cultural backgrounds
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Current driver's licence (WA C Class)
- Australian work rights
- Current national police check (not older than 6 months)
- Prior experience in a similar role (ie in a warehouse and/or driving a truck)
- Sound Manual Handling skills
- First Aid Certificate (desirable)
