The Role
We are seeking Allocations Officers to join our Housing Services team in Melbourne on a 6-month fixed-term contract.
The Allocations Officer plays a vital role in ensuring returning tenants are allocated safe, secure, appropriate, and affordable housing. You will provide high‑quality communication, support, and information to customers navigating relocations and allocations, while ensuring all decisions align with relevant legislation, regulations, organisational policies, and the Victorian Housing Register requirements.
This position supports our commitment to fair, transparent, and customer‑centred housing allocation processes—key to delivering on our organisational values.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Ensure timely, accurate and fair allocation of suitable properties to returning tenants.
- Undertake assessments in line with Government regulations, contracts, and guidelines.
- Coordinate renter relocations, providing information, advice, and support throughout the process.
- Support customers to make informed decisions about property offers.
- Complete income assessments and rent calculations, ensuring customers understand the process.
- Act as a key point of contact for customers, government departments, partner organisations, and internal teams.
- Maintain accurate property and tenancy data in internal and external systems.
- Support organisational reporting, compliance, quality, and administrative requirements.
- Uphold fair and transparent processes, and contribute to sustainable tenancy outcomes
What you will bring
To be successful for this role, you will have a genuine passion for wanting to support vulnerable people in our community.
We are looking for someone who demonstrates:
- Experience in a similar role (2 years desirable).
- Knowledge or willingness to learn about the Residential Tenancies Act.
- Sensitivity to customer needs, including those experiencing crisis, disability, or vulnerability.
- Strong communication and customer‑service capability.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Effective problem‑solving, resilience, and self‑awareness.
- Commitment to our values, diversity, and respectful service delivery.
- Confidence using technology and systems.
- Ability to manage time, maintain accurate records, and follow organisational processes.
- A principled, policy‑aligned approach to work
Please note that a satisfactory police check is required for all staff and those with client related responsibilities are required to provide a NDIS and Working with Children Check (WWCC).
