Chief Executive Officer

Location: Remote | Employment: Full-time (38 hours per week)

Playgroup Australia is seeking an experienced and passionate leader to serve as our next Chief Executive Officer.

Playgroup Australia is the national voice for playgroups; community spaces where young children learn, play, and connect alongside their families. We believe playgroups have the power to change lives, and our vision is simple: every child, every family, everywhere, learning and connecting through playgroup.

The Opportunity

This is a pivotal time for Australia's early years sector. Growing recognition of the critical importance of the first five years, combined with renewed government focus on early childhood policy, means playgroups are more relevant than ever. As CEO, you will lead an organisation at the heart of this national conversation, advocating for playgroups to be recognised, valued, and sustainably embedded in the universal early years system.

You will work closely with our Board, member organisations across all states and territories, government at all levels, and sector partners to strengthen the reach and impact of playgroups nationwide.

What You'll Do

  • Lead national advocacy to shape policy, funding, and recognition for playgroups
  • Oversee delivery of government contracts in partnership with member organisations and service delivery partners
  • Champion high-impact research that builds the evidence base for playgroup effectiveness
  • Drive revenue growth and diversification to secure the organisation's future
  • Build and lead a small, high-performing remote team
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships across government, philanthropy, and the early years sector

What You'll Bring

  • Proven CEO or senior executive leadership experience in the not-for-profit or government sector, ideally in the early years or community sectors
  • A track record in national advocacy, government relations, and media engagement
  • Experience securing and delivering government and philanthropic funding
  • A proven record in establishing and maintaining robust contract management, data, reporting and governance mechanisms to ensure value is delivered to our funders
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in early childhood, education, social policy, management, or business

Remuneration

We offer competitive remuneration at $165,439 plus 12% superannuation ($185,291 total package)

If you're driven by the belief that every Australian child deserves the best start in life, and you have the leadership experience to amplify playgroups on the national stage, we'd love to hear from you.
