
ABORIGINAL OR TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER HEALTH WORKERS
The Positions:
Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Health Workers are required for the delivery of comprehensive primary health care services, including:
- Identifying evidence based best practice resources relevant to patient care
- Sharing resources
- Imparting educational strategies to patients
- Contributing to the improvement of patient health outcomes throughout the South and North Burnett regions.
The roles are established as members of the multidisciplinary health care team to support the achievement of service goals as set by the Indigenous Health Services Coordination.
There are Kingaroy and Cherbourg based positions available.

Cherbourg Regional Aboriginal and Islander Community Controlled Health Service (CRAICCHS) is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Organisation.
CRAICCHS’ objective is to provide increased access to quality primary health care and social and emotional well-being services to the communities in the South and North Burnett regions.
CRAICCHS works with other health service providers and organizations to promote the aims and objectives of CRAICCHS.
CRAICCHS supports the ideal of an Indigenous Health Worker lead clinic, supported by the multi-disciplinary team.

Key Duties:
The Duties will be diverse and although not limited to, will include:
- Work closely with clients, their families and the multidisciplinary primary health care team to ensure care plans are developed, care coordination and continuity of care (including supporting the monitoring and maintenance of client health registers).
- Identify ‘high risk’ patients and ensure patient follow up as requested by the GP (this includes working with reception and GP Outreach to locate patients and arrange appointments accordingly).
- Conduct opportunistic screening and follow-up of patients in the required areas.
- Support, educate and build the capacity of the primary health care team.
- Ensure accurate documentation is recorded in a timely and compliant manner.
- Other general tasks as required
Practical Requirements of the Position:
The successful applicant will be required to:
- Work out of normal hours of duty may be required.
- Travel across the region if required.
- Perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner
Qualifications and Experience Required:
The successful applicant will need to be able to demonstrate:
- Identification as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- Certificate III in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (preferred) and progressing towards the Certificate IV (or the willingness to undertake).
- Current CPR and First Aid Certificates or willing to obtain.
- Demonstrated competence in the application and use of Medical Director and Outlook; or the ability to acquire such knowledge with ease.
- Demonstrated ability to perform clinical, health education and administrative duties in the primary health care setting and understanding of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Sector.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and professional communication skills with the ability to work within a multidisciplinary health care team.
- Proven ability to employ problem solving skills in the work environment and to support others to problem solve challenging situations and issues.
- Provide examples of quality improvement activities that you have initiated, led, or participated in.
- A current C Class Drivers Licence (Qld).
- A current Blue Card (working with children and young people) or willingness to quickly acquire
- Current full vaccination status for COVID 19.
- A current Queensland Notice of Suitability or willingness to apply.
Conditions of Employment:
- Identification as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. As an "Identified position" it is a genuine requirement that the person in this position must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander cultural background. This position is exempt under Section 25, 104 and 105 of the Queensland Ant-Discrimination Act (1991).
- Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services Award 2020
- All offers of employment at CRAICCHS are subject to a six-month probationary period. The staff member will be asked to participate in monthly performance reviews linked to objectives set out for the position.
- All offers of employment are subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Check, a current Driver’s License and an Employment Working with Children Check. "No Card; No Start".
