The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal, Indigenous Engagement to join a leading general insurer in Sydney (preferred) on a permanent basis. The organisation is committed to developing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs and partnerships through its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
We are seeking an ambitious individual who will further embed our work internally and ensure the organisation’s future direction meets the needs of First Nations people, businesses and communities. In this role you will be responsible for the development and implementation of an Indigenous Engagement Strategy and RAP program that inspires the organisation’s people and supports delivery of its strategic objectives.
The successful candidate is a passionate and genuine individual who is able to showcase innovative thinking as you seek out brave opportunities, foster relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels as you deliver programs. It will be critical that you have previously managed a RAP, are able to present to senior leaders and executives, and have experience in a mid to large organisation. The key to your success will be your ability to network and manage complex relationships and partner both internally and externally.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with a range of internal stakeholders to continually develop the strategic approach to and implementation of an Indigenous Engagement Strategy, partnerships and initiatives.
- Lead, manage, monitor and report on the development and progress of the organisation’s RAP to ensure business accountability, ownership and execution against agreed commitments.
- Provide advice to leaders across the business on Indigenous topics relevant to the general insurance business.
- Support the development, governance and contribute to the strategic thinking of a trans-Tasman approach to Indigenous engagement.
- Support the organisation’s diversity, inclusion & belonging ambition, by building cultural engagement and advocacy of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people, cultures and histories.
- Manage key external relationships including peak Indigenous / community organisations and Reconciliation Australia to ensure continued leadership.
- On-board, manage and set individual plans for Indigenous engagement partners that increase the capacity for Indigenous communities to be safer and more resilient and engage our people. Ensure agreed social and commercial outcomes are effectively measured, evaluated and communicated.
- Ensure the Indigenous engagement approach evolves and transitions from traditional CSR towards a shared value approach.
- Work with People and Culture to develop employment strategies for attracting and retaining Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to meet specific employment targets and develop skilled volunteering that supports leadership and talent development.
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated experience working with and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
- Experience developing and driving shared value, sustainability and/or community partnerships and programs.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, management and influencing skills.
- Tertiary qualification/s in Social Sciences, Community Development, Communications, Marketing, Business Management or related fields.
