Board Directors
Non-Executive Directors (3 roles)
· A unique opportunity to share your expertise with an organisation dedicated to connecting families and communities to raise children through play.
· Volunteer positions: Expenses Paid including travel and ongoing professional development
Playgroup Australia is the national peak body for playgroups, supporting children and families across the country to connect, learn and thrive through the power of play. As the organisation enters a pivotal phase of growth and renewal, we are seeking three experienced and purpose-driven Non-Executive Directors to join the Board and help shape the future of a nationally significant, community-focused organisation.
This is an opportunity to contribute at a strategic level to an organisation operating at the heart of Australia’s early years ecosystem—where social impact, public policy, and community connection intersect. You will be joining a values-led Board that emphasises respectful debate, constructive challenge, and collective accountability.
The Opportunity
Playgroup Australia is strengthening its governance and positioning itself for long-term sustainability, impact and influence. The Board plays a critical stewardship role in this journey—balancing reform with stability, and ambition with care.
We are seeking Directors who bring strong governance capability, sound judgement, and a collaborative approach to Board contribution.
We are also interested in candidates who bring prior Board Chair experience, or the demonstrated capability to step into a future Chair role, particularly within not-for-profit or member-based organisations. While the Chair is appointed through a separate internal process, this recruitment will contribute to the Board’s longer-term leadership pipeline.
We are specifically seeking expertise in the following domains
· Legal, Quality & Compliance
· Government Relations, Early Years Policy, Advocacy & Strategic Communications
· IR / HR & Organisational Transformation
About You
You are an experienced Non-Executive Director (or equivalent senior governance contributor) who brings:
- AICD (or equivalent) governance qualification
- Strong understanding of Board roles, fiduciary duties and governance boundaries, ideally in the NFP sector
- The ability to contribute constructively in complex, evolving environments
- Sound judgement, integrity, and an enterprise-wide perspective
- A commitment to social impact and alignment with Playgroup Australia’s purpose
You are comfortable navigating ambiguity, building consensus, and contributing to long-term strategic thinking rather than operational management.
The Role
As a Director, you will:
- Contribute to strategy, performance oversight, and organisational sustainability
- Provide independent judgement and constructive challenge
- Support a high-performing, values-aligned Board culture
- Work collaboratively with fellow Directors, the Chair and CEO
- Uphold strong governance, risk and accountability frameworks
These are voluntary Non-Executive Director roles, typically appointed for a two-year term with the potential for renewal. Directors are expected to commit to approximately six Board meetings per year (mostly held online) in addition to preparation time, participation in committees where required, and occasional additional engagement as required. The role is national in scope, with meetings primarily held virtually, alongside some in-person attendance from time to time.
How to Apply
If you are motivated by purpose, governance excellence, and the opportunity to contribute to meaningful national impact, we welcome your interest.
